Public Service Blogcast Episode 51

From Let Our Enemies Beware:

This is our blogcast. Don't listen to it.

Seriously DON'T.

LOEB would like to thank Vicious Biting Thing for his dedication to THE CAUSE.

At one point we have paraphrased a quote from the Armando Iannucci Show without permssion. We would like to make it clear that we are huge fans of the work of Armand Iannucci and that of Alan Ford. Whilst we do have the utmost respect for them, we were compelled to hear their work through a threatening Stephen Hawkins-esque voice-box named 'Fred'. Please don't sue us or we will come round and batter the chins from your living skulls.

'Inhale_Sleep came about from a jam at the studio when we had some spare time. The sounds over the top were added later withn the help of John Amino (of English Bore fame). The weird chatter may or may not be one Mr Crowley (depending on any legalities that may follow). If it is one Mr Crowley (which it may or may not be) then be sure that we take absolutely NO RESPONSIBILITY if, upon the track's conclusion, a huge whacking great big rabbit demon with scabs for eyes and breath like rust bursts through the living room floor of your house to a choir of twisted angels and proceeds to rape you in the soul hole'

'I'm Not Laughing, I'm Choking' is a nasty song that took absolutely ages to write. It is a perfect example of our attention defecit approach to music. The title, I think, comes from what our buddy Grenfell (SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT - Grenfell is of 'Ergon Carousel' fame) screamed at Adam when he thought he had made a funny. He could have died, you know.

Sorry, all 3 downloads of 'I'm Not Laughing, I'm Choking' have been taken

‘Memento Mori’ was recorded last minute by Chris and I whilst the other two drank White Russians and moonied us through the divider. That might not be all true. The mental jazz band at the end just happened to be on the DAT reel we were recording onto, whilst the extra noises were provided by UP-C Down-C guitar Maestro Chris Garth and Noise-Nik Life-Guru John Amino. There is a movie quote in their but for legal reasons we can’t say what it is. It’s from Being There – I'm rubbish with secrets.

‘Noise = Death’ is a band favourite because it’s dead simple and it just happened in one rehearsal. It is also my favourite to sing because I get to put on my screeching soul-singer voice. No-one else seems to get that from it, they get crazed muppet. I’ll let you decide. This too was accidently played on Radio One, which did make me laugh milk out of my nose.

‘Negative, Ghostrider’ has its title taken from one of our favourite movies ‘Top Gun’ and has only the vaguest link to the lyrics. Song titles are devised by democratic vote rather than by any one particular person because - let’s face it - hardly anyone remembers them anyway, right? This didn’t make the album cut, so feel blessed or something.

‘(Personal) Space Invaders’ was one of the first songs I ever wrote and has been in the band since we were the appallingly named ‘Army of Juan’. Interestingly, the American ‘Army of Juan’ (a terrible, TERRIBLE Ska band) got in touch with us and threatened to sue us even though they hadn’t been active for years and we were just local upstarts. Gits.

‘POW! Right in the Kisser’ is our homage to cartoons and comics, which at least 50% of the band are major fans of. The song title is obviously a reference to a reference in Family Guy; the line Adam sings is from childhood favourite ‘Bat-Fink’; my line is from Captain Marvel...I think - can’t remember. Anyway, Zane Lowe said this was one of the best riffs he’s heard in ages which is gutting because I didn’t bloody write it.

Over to Sha (guitar/vocals)...

-----------------

Although I will try my darndest to avoid giving away lyrics and their meaning, I do have to explain ‘I Am Lono’. This one is about an incident that our guitarist Boast told me about that involved the late and great Hunter S Thompson. Toward the end of his life he was unfortunately wheelchair bound and unable to ascend a staircase that led to a party (and buffet) that was being held in his honour. I don’t normally scream about sandwiches, if you were wondering..

Let Our Enemies Beware: Fibonacci Download #1

Medway havoc-bringers and new to the STA family are
Let Our Enemies Beware; in the build-up to the release of their incendiary and epic post-rock/metal hybrid of a debut album Against Karate later in 2009, each week for the next 10 weeks the STA blog will host a series of downloads.

And the catch is? The availability of the downloads will be informed by the Fibonacci sequence, whereby the nth number is the sum of the previous two numbers. Which means that, going in reverse order starting with the 10th F number, the link for the first LOEB track hosted here tonight will expire after 89 downloads, the next song will expire after 55 downloads, the third after 34, the fourth after 21, the fifth after 13 - ending with track 10 being online for just 1 download. After which, said debut album can be pre-ordered from the STA store.

Fiendish? A little.

Over to Sha (guitar/vocals)...

-----------------

'Fools, Philistines, Heretics and Whores' was the first track from our earliest DIY release 'Dhu Rakina' and was featured on STA's Public Service Broadcast (not sure which number). The opening line is from a drunken tramp I bumped into on the way home from university. He grabbed my shoulder and said unto me: "Let's get drunk and take over the state!"

I regetfully declined his offer.
